Chatham, NJ … September 27, 2016 … Restaurant Serenade, the award-winning restaurant owned + operated by longtime couple Chef James Laird and Nancy Sheridan Laird, will mark its 20th anniversary this October. Laird has consistently been named among the top chefs in the New York metropolitan area for his mastery of contemporary American cuisine.
After two decades in business, the restaurant has maintained a stellar reputation thanks to James’ and Nancy’s commitment to handpicked ingredients of the highest quality, an approachable and highly curated wine list, and unmatched attention to service.
One might even say that Serenade, which underwent a gorgeous makeover in 2015 (see photo below), is better than ever.
“It is amazing to us that it has been 20 years since we have opened Serenade,” enthuses Nancy. “We so appreciate the support of our surrounding communities, our staff, and our wonderful customers. We hope for another 20!”

In 2016-2017, restaurateurs Chef James Laird and Nancy Sheridan Laird are celebrating the 20th anniversary of Restaurant Serenade. Chef Laird has been at the vanguard of now-popular culinary trends — farm-to-table, ancient grains, gluten-free, and flavorful butterless, flourless and creamless dishes — since 1996. His signature contemporary American cuisine showcases the finest hand-selected seasonal and regional ingredients in simple, refined presentations and ever-changing tasting menus, complemented by an extensive, carefully curated wine collection.
A native of Middlesex, NJ, Chef Laird’s acclaim emanates to the much larger culinary world. The New York Times named him “one of the best classically trained chefs in New Jersey” and New Jersey Monthly has consistently ranked the restaurant among “the best of the best.”
A former Wall Street banker, Nancy Laird — like her husband, a CIA graduate — oversees all aspects of the Serenade experience. Her sound business acumen and years of involvement with the NJ Restaurant Association (as a board member since 2008, then ascending to Board Chair in 2014) — coupled with her culinary training, excellent wine palate, and natural hospitality — are integral to the restaurant’s success and longevity.
